Learn about the Minor in Mixology with Gastro Cocktail Academy at Culinary Institute of Barcelona

An intentional process designed to strengthen every application.

  • Instructors come from Paradiso — World's Best Bar 2022 — and Disfrutar — World's Best Restaurant 2024. Not from the academic circuit, but from the work itself.

  • All sessions of the Minor in Mixology take place at Culinary Institute of Barcelona. Uniform, equipment, and all ingredients are provided. No online component, no additional costs, no limitations on what you can develop.

  • The curriculum is designed and taught by active R&D professionals — people who are shaping where beverage culture is going, not documenting where it has been.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most bar education teaches you how to execute — how to replicate recipes, run service, and work a shift. The Minor in Mixology teaches you how to develop. That means understanding the science behind what you're making, working with professional laboratory equipment, applying structured R&D methodology, and building drinks with a genuine creative identity. It sits at the intersection of the bar, the kitchen, and the innovation lab. There is no other program at this level that brings all three together in one place.

  • All sessions take place on campus at Culinary Institute of Barcelona (CIB) in Barcelona, Spain. The program is 100% in-person — there is no online component. Students work in CIB's professional kitchen labs and bar facilities throughout the entire program.

  • The Minor in Mixology currently has three open intakes: June 2026, November 2026, and February 2027. Each intake is capped at 16 students. Places fill quickly — early application is strongly recommended.

  • The program runs Monday to Thursday on an afternoon schedule, 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM, on campus at CIB. It is intensive by design — each session combines theory, demonstration, and hands-on lab work. You should expect to be fully engaged for the duration.

  • You do not need to be a specialist in mixology, but some professional background in gastronomy or beverage is expected. The program is not designed for complete beginners. It is designed for people who already have a foundation and are ready to go considerably deeper.

  • Yes, and many of the best applicants do. The Minor in Mixology is explicitly built for both profiles. If you come from a culinary background, you will find that the curriculum applies the same logic you already use in the kitchen — flavour, texture, structure, process — and takes it directly into the liquid world.

  • 21 and above, the program welcomes applications from professionals at different stages of their career. What matters is attitude, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to developing within the liquid world — not age or years of experience.

  • Yes. The Minor in Mixology is designed for an international cohort, and diversity of background, nationality, and professional experience is something we actively look for in each intake. Students should plan to be in Barcelona in-person for the full duration of the program.

  • Each intake is capped at 16 students. This is a deliberate pedagogical decision — not a logistical one. Small cohorts allow instructors to work closely with every participant, ensure the quality of every session, and create the kind of environment where real learning actually happens.

  • Everything. Professional uniform, all equipment, all ingredients used throughout the program, all activities both inside and outside the campus, and the graduation ceremony. There are no hidden costs and no additional purchases required at any point during the program.

  • Yes. After an initial enrolment fee to secure your place, the remaining balance can be split across two further instalments. You will not need to pay everything upfront, and our team can walk you through the options when you speak with an advisor.
