The Program

A bar course covers technique. A food science course covers the science. A design program covers the concept. The Minor in Mixology covers all four, in an environment where the lab, the bar, and the creative process exist in the same space. Taught by people who've applied all of it at the highest level of the industry.

The Minor in Mixology is Gastro Cocktail Academy’s flagship program, currently offered exclusively in partnership with Culinary Institute of Barcelona (CIB) in Barcelona, Spain. Three intakes are open: June 2026 · November 2026 · February 2027. All sessions are in-person, on campus at CIB.

Minor in Mixology Program

The Minor in Mixology is built around three interconnected disciplines. Each one is necessary. None of them is sufficient on its own. Together, they form the complete professional.

Craft

The foundation everything else is built on. Before you can experiment, you need to be able to execute. Before you can innovate, you need to understand the discipline you are working within.

The modules under this cover the history, the technique, and the hands-on practice of the cocktail craft — so that when you push boundaries, you know exactly which boundaries you are pushing.

Science

The liquid world is governed by processes — biological, chemical, physical. This pillar is about understanding those processes well enough to control them, and eventually, to use them creatively.

Students work with living fermentations, professional laboratory equipment, and the science of texture and transformation. Not to become scientists, but to think like ones.

Innovation

Where everything converges. This pillar teaches students how to develop original work — not by waiting for inspiration, but by following a process.

From the first ingredient to the finished prototype, students learn to move through the full creative and development cycle with rigour, intention, and a point of view that is entirely their own.

The Minor in Mixology exists because the liquid world deserves the same intellectual rigour, technical depth, and structured methodology that the best culinary institutions have applied to food for decades and not as an academic exercise, but as a practical, professional, and creative standard. Gastro Cocktail Academy is currently delivering this program exclusively at Culinary Institute of Barcelona but the academy is expanding - more locations and programs to come.
